Author Edith Hemingway Inspires Young Readers at Beville Middle School

BeaLu Books author Edith Hemingway recently spent two memorable days at Beville Middle School, where her visit made a lasting impression on both students and staff. Over the course of ten sessions, she spoke to more than 400 sixth graders, engaging them with the story behind her book That Smudge of Smoke and fielding enthusiastic questions from her young audience, and seeing their school projects they created around the book.

Author Edith Hemingway shares a particularly special moment from her visit with us:

“One of the best moments was when a boy from last year who said the book made him like to read and who is now in 7th grade, came in to see me and gave me a big hug.  He said That Smudge of Smoke is still his favorite book, and he keeps it in his backpack... This brings me to tears!”

Teachers at the school were equally enthusiastic. With the recent success of That Smudge of Smoke, in one of the sixth-grade educators' classrooms, other sixth-grade teachers at Beville Middle School are planning to add That Smudge of Smoke to their curriculums for next year. The school is even considering pairing a series of field trips to the local Steamboat Era Museum with That Smudge of Smoke.

BeaLu Books is proud to support authors like Edith Hemingway, whose stories continue to resonate with educators and students alike. If your school is interested in including That Smudge of Smoke in their curriculum, please email Information@BeaLuBooks.com.
